Visit to Haven House

You’ve probably never heard of Haven House. Neither had we. Tucked away in urban Woodford, it is an oasis. So why Haven House? Because its at the forefront of fighting childhood cancers and we’ve selected it as one of two charities to receive the funds from for our forthcoming eighth annual 10kfm fundraising walk on Sunday 24th September in Hainault Forest. We were intrigued about Haven House and what they do, so we decided to visit them to learn more and wow what a delightful surprise! Set in 19 acres of luscious, landscaped forest in Woodford, Essex, providing opportunities for children 0 to 19 years and families to enjoy recreation, fresh air, walks, outdoor activities like yoga and music therapy.

A real oasis despite the pain and sadness. Its catchment area covers West Essex, East London, Hertfordshire, and North London. It’s a perfect haven/retreat for families and their children living with cancers and other life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Its wholistic approach to caring for their children, siblings, and parents was excellent and heartwarming. Amazingly, care is individually tailored to the needs of the children with specialised medical equipment and great attention to creating a home from home experience wherever possible.

Last year, Haven House treated over 400 children and families and annually, it needs to raise a huge amount of money – £6 million to keep providing its excellent services

This year, the cost-of-living crisis and cuts is having an impact on how much they can do.
So why not consider donating or joining in our walk to raise much needed funds for this worthy organisation that brings much needed care for children impacted by childhood cancers. Every step and every penny counts.
