Here’s some early thoughts about the history of Mother’s Day.

Salome Ahenkora
The dedicatory celebration of mother’s dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times where they would host festivals in honour of Rhea and Cybele who were mother goddesses but our contemporary celebration derives from a combination of the Christian festival of ‘Mothering Sunday’ and the story of Anna Jarvis who’s mother started ‘Mother’s Day Work Clubs’ which was designed to help mothers raise their children, she sought to make a day recognising the sacrifices mothers make for their children, following her mothers death in 1905. And this act of honouring the great women who nurture and care for us has thankfully regimented itself in society.
