Step back in time and experience the romance of travel from a time gone by as you soak up a stunning Essex countryside on this award winning Tour.
The Epping Ongar Railway is a heritage railway, run by a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers, in North Weald Ongar, South-west Essex, England.
The Tour includes a return ticket, starting at Epping Train Station where you will be met by our knowledgeable Tour Guide, where you will start your journey on a vintage bus ride to the village of North Weald; a village in the civil parish of North Weald Bassett the Epping Forest district of the county of Essex. From here you will journey on the heritage steam railway. This train ride will take you through Epping Forest amidst iconic English countryside scenes that all ages can enjoy.
Meet your dedicated Guide at Epping Train Station (Central Line underground 10.00 - 10.15), your Tour begins with:
- A journey on a vintage bus ride to the village of North Weald, where you will be guided around the station and it history. On special events day, kyou can participate in the fun events available.
With your tour guide, you will board the steam train for the steam journey to Ongar, the ancient market town. The steam train purchased by the Great Eastern Railway Company and used as a goods station to transport farm produce to London. It did eventually become a passenger line and part of the London Underground, but it was closed in 1994. wooden church in Europe
- At Ongar, you have the opportunity to be guided around Greensted Church and its surrounding beautiful countryside.
You will then have the opportunity to purchase locally produced gifts, home made honey, and various quaint items.
- From here you will be taken to see the blue plaque on the cottages, Livingstone Cottages where David Livingstone, is reputed to have lived.
- Then be treated to your sumptuous and delicious afternoon tea in Ongar. Please note, this, will not be on the train.
The 3rd part of your tour, will be a delightful Heritage steam train ride through Epping Forest
After returning to North Weald, you will board the vintage bus for your final journey back to Epping to connect to the London underground.
Your tour ends at Epping Station.
