Description
More a ramble than a march, our tour guide will take you through the ancient woodland home to a wealth of wildlife and plant species, once a royal hunting forest.
In Spring, walk under the canopy of oak and hornbeam, through swathes of bluebells. Whilst in Autumn, see the woods burst into colour and an abundance of colourful fungi including fly agaric, jade-green elf cups and angel’s bonnets. Natures very own supermarket.
Take inspiration from the Sculpture trail, which includes pieces by Jeff Higley and Cheryl Hughes. The Sculpture project was the idea of sculptor Jeff Highley and was opened September 2009. The sculptures are all on fallen wood or old tree trunks and many of them have a fantasy/horror element to them. Standing on top of Dog Kennel Hill looking towards the lake and All Saints Church Chigwell Row you will see the site of Woodhenge.
The tour is 3 hours long and suitable for all age groups.
