Breakfast

Depart to Bojo Beach Resort in Bortianor. There are lots of activities in the area, such as biking and canoeing. Views of the sea, mountains or lake while you enjoy a drink at the bar or relax at the shores.

Return to your hotel and freshen up

Rest of the evening free for personal activates such as joining a watch night service at a local church,  Accra sports stadium or night clubbing to usher in the New Year.

DAY 4:           JANUARY 2 : ACCRA CITY TOUR

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum                                                              Old Accra(Light House)

          

 

Breakfast

Depart after breakfast for a city tour of Accra visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, burial place of the first President of Ghana; the Independence Arch and Black Star Square - Accra’s ceremonial grounds and the Presidential Museum at Christianborg Castle, former office and residence of the President of Ghana. This museum houses relics such as photographs, and gifts items offered to sucessive governuments or heads of states.

Continue to Old Accra which is a contrast of Victorian, Dutch and post-colonial architecture. You will drive past James Fort built in 1673, Old Accra Square and the Post Office. Stop to visit the Ussher Fort, one of three European forts in Accra which have survived the times. It was built as Fort Crêvecoeur by the Dutch in 1642. The name changed to Ussher Fort when the Dutch sold the fort to the English in 1668. Interact with the local people. For the adventurous visit the Light House built to guide ships. Continue to the Arts and Crafts market where you may try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors and to shop till you drop.

After lunch visit the popular areas of Accra like the Osu Oxford Street known to be entertainment hot spot in Accra. You may spend some time at the street craft shops or pick some authentic Ghanaian Fabrics at Wooden fabric shop for family back home.

DAY 5:           JANUARY 3, 2019: ACCRA –COCOA TRAIL - KUMASI

Depart Accra to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Stop at Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Cocoa Farm in Akuapem Mampong. The is the first Cocoa farm established in the country with seeds first brought from Fernando Po (now known as Equatorial Guinea) in 1879. From this small beginning grew Ghana’s major cocoa industry which is one of the national major income earners.

Continue to the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG). This institute researches into cocoa disease control, improving cocoa seedlings, cocoa related products etc.

DAY 6:           FRIDAY JANUARY 4, 2019: KUMASI CITY TOUR

Depart for a city tour of Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region, visiting: the Manhyia Palace, Palace Museum, the National Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Okomfo Anokye Sword, the College of Art at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Kumasi Central Market – the largest open-air market in West Africa.

DAY 7:           JANUARY 5 : KUMASI– ACCRA

Craft Villages 

 

Breakfast and hotel checkout

Depart for the Kumasi Cultural Centre to participate in service & learning projects in local economic activities such as Tie and Dye processing, Clay & Pottery products, Braze gold making. Continue to visit Lake Bosomtwi which is a crater lake formed by a meteor impact one million years ago.

Enjoy lunch at the lake side

After lunch proceed to Accra. Enroute stop to visit a few Ashanti crafts villages including, Ahwiaa – the woodcarver’s village specializing in woodcarving such as the Ashanti stools, fertility dolls and walking sticks and Ntonso - noted for its indigenous artisans whose expertise lie in Adinkra textile printing using traditional symbols that express the spiritual, moral, political and socio-cultural philosophies of the Akan people. In the Ntonso Adinkra village you will be able to try your hand at creating your own designs.  From here we will visit Bonwire famous for their Kente cloth production, where you will have the opportunity to observe weavers exhibiting their age old skills in producing the clothes adorned, some of which are a preserve for the Ashanti Kings.

Continue to Accra driving past several farming towns and villages.

DAY 9:           JANUARY 7: ACCRA – KAKUM PARK AND ELMINA

CASTLE TOUR

 

Kakum Canopy Walk                                                             Elmina Castle

Depart Accra to the Central Region. Arrive and visit the Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk of the Kuntan Trail and see countless trees with medicinal properties. For the young at heart experience the Canopy Walkway suspended 100 feet from the forest floor for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest.

Continue after lunch to visit Elmina Castle for a tour of St. George’s Castle the largest in the tropical world built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used as an Auction Market for Slaves.

See the Slave Dungeons and the Condemned Cells where slaves who attempted to escape were incarcerated.

 

Proceed to explore Elmina Township and its several Posuban Shrines. Posuban are sacred meeting stations for the Akan traditional Military groups who were called upon to defend their community. Witness Edna Bronya.

DAY 10:         JANUARY 8 :ELMINA - CAPE COAST CASTLE - ACCRA

Cape Coast Castle

Breakfast

Depart after breakfast to visit the Cape Coast Castle which was originally started by the Swedes in 1652. It served as the headquarters and seat of the British colonial government until 1877. Go on a comprehensive tour of the Castle, the Slave Dungeons and the West African Heritage Museum. The guide will lead you to slave quarters and Negotiation Hall where our ancestors were bargained and sold. Participate in re-enactment of the Slave Trade at the Cape Coast Castle and pay a solemn homage to our ancestors. Drive through the Cape Coast Township with its narrow streets modeled on the Yorkshire Districts of England.
