Even the ride to the distillery is an experience as we ditch the motorway in favour the scenic route through peaceful countryside and the quiet town of Winchester.
The Bombay Sapphire Distillery, much like the famous gin in its iconic blue bottles, is a fantastic blend of many ingredients. The Laverstoke Mill site sits in the middle of a beautiful SSSi with the classic red brick buildings carefully preserved, restored and enhanced by the addition of magnificent curving glasshouses. Under the care of a Bombay Sapphire guide, you’ll learn about the challenges of sensitively developing a site that’s been in use as a mill since the 10th century, learn about the distilling process and even see the living plants from which classic Bombay Sapphire is made.
In the afternoon, it’s time to grab your Bostons and shake things up with a few tips on mixing the perfect drinks from the resident cocktail masters. The hour-long session is instructive thanks to the vast expertise of the on-site staff and yet conducted in high spirits, thanks to the odd free sample as you go and the complimentary drink that’s included.
The river Test flows through the distillery site and out into a fabulous wetland habitat. You'll get a chance to explore this area in the afternoon before we make the return journey to London. A walk along the river adds a dash of natural beauty to the day's cocktail of architecture, history and the fragrant finery of Bombay Sapphire Gin. The Bombay Sapphire distillery is a working site, so you may be refused entry if you are wearing open-toed shoes. Please bring suitable footwear
