St. Andrew’s Church
St Andrew’s Church, Greensted is the oldest wooden church in the world. The original timber planks date from about 1060 although excavations under the chancel reveal the existence of two earlier timber structures. Find out what the “leper’s squint” is, the grave of the unknown Crusader and where the body of St Edmund was rested on its way to Bury. The church is on the Essex Way surrounded by magnificent and beautiful Essex countryside in the direction of Epping which joins Ongar alongside the Sainsbury’s car park.

A traditional lounge area with open fire, comfortable bar, function room, and a 100-seat restaurant, complete with full-length open kitchen. Nothing more to be said, it is wonderful place to dine so I would say to check it out.

The Ongar Deli

Address: 150 High Street, Chipping Ongar | 01277 363300
Welcome to The Ongar Deli, situated in a beautiful building constructed in 1642. It’s almost two years since we opened our doors, amidst the chaos of Covid 19. The restrictions the Government placed on businesses meant rules were constantly changing, so we had to continuously stay on our toes. Only now are we beginning to see The Ongar Deli in its organic form and I’m proud to say we are thriving. A delicatessen literally means ready to eat foods, sandwiches, and cold cuts of meat, cheese and, as the French say, “delicacies”. Our deli counter is well-stocked and fresh and we have a varied menu. We offer an array of savouries and sweet options, catering for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free and our baking and cooking are predominantly done in-house. Our shelves are brimming with wonderful produce, some of which are locally sourced, whilst the rest have been carefully selected to provide you with the very best pantry items. The menu covers an all-day breakfast and lunch with additional sweet options that take you through the rest of the day. Our coffee is exquisite! A Brazilian blend that kicks a punch; smooth, well balanced and incredibly moreish. Additionally, we make whole pies, quiches and cakes plus speciality hampers and afternoon tea boxes for any occasion.
