Supporting the Innocent Families
Hainault Forest Fundraising walk- Chigwell Tours
Hainault Forest was the location for the 3rd Chigwell Tours annual fundraising 10km walk for good causes.
The walk was organised to raise awareness of the devastating impact on parents, siblings and the community in East London, who have lost innocent sons to knife crime. Many families struggle to gain normalcy after such crime.
Chigwell Tours, a local tour operator, raised £300 from the walk and the funds will support the charity, who then works to support the families affected.
The Flavasum Trust, East London charity and Another Night of Sisterhood- were nominated to receive the funds from the walk because of their work. Flavasum Trust supports families in Ilford, Barking and Dagenham, and provides counselling support through their monthly forum for affected parents.
Another Night of Sisterhood, from south London, have over the years stood alongside affected mothers and siblings, and provide practical assistance for the immediate aftermath.
Speaking after the walk, Salome Ahenkora, Managing director of Chigwell tours, commented that “this type of crime gets much media coverage but, little is known about the innocent mothers and siblings whose lives are impacted for many years and they receive little or no coverage. This was our motivation for the walk. We wanted to contribute to any support which the charity provides. We believe this was a timely and important cause to support.”
In 2016, Chigwell tours provided local families with disabled children in Epping Forest District and Barnardos Children Home in Redbridge, a day out to Southend on Sea from the funds raised from its Hainault Forest sponsored walk. In 2017, Chigwell Tours worked with the Rotary Club of Chigwell, Buckhurst Hill and Loughton to raise funds to support Lend with Care, an international charity who provide loans for women in developing countries to start income generating activities which are then used to support their families.
