Award Winning Steam Train Cream Tea/ Afternoon Tea Venue Change

I’m delighted that you and your guests will be joining us for your award winning vintage bus, steam train and afternoon tea\ or cream tea this summer and autumn.
It continues to be an amazing summer and many of our guests who have been on this steam train, cream tea experience, have enjoyed the tour and have been surprised by the tranquillity of the location, and the relaxed pace of the day.
We would very much like to maintain this but regretfully, some changes need to be made due to circumstances beyond our control.

The carriage where the cream tea is served at the end of the tour, is no longer available for use by Chigwell Tours. It has been withdrawn by the train company for its own use and also because it was inadequate for serving the growing number of our clients who wanted a Cream Tea service.

After much searching, a preferred venue equally historic called, Zinc Up, in Ongar has been selected for you to have your cream tea and afternoon tea called Zinc Up.

Zinc up is a speciality provider of Cream and Afternoon tea.
It is a community hub, theatre and cafe housed in a beautiful former Victorian school building in the heart of the wonderful Essex countryside. Dating from 1901 this historic building is full of atmosphere and offers a warm welcome to everyone.

It is located on the High Road, Ongar, just 5 minutes walk from Ongar station going towards North Weald.

Chigwell Tours will start serving cream tea, afternoon teas from Saturday 14^th July till late October.

On arrival, Guests will be met at reception and escorted upstairs for their meal.

The venue provides facilities to meet all needs.

A comfortable lounge is available for you to relax before your meal.
Cream Tea and Afternoon Tea, will be served on the first floor. A lift is available for this.

A major feature of the venue is that all food served is freshly prepared and cooked on the day on the premises.

A fully licensed bar, can provide both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks; prosecco afternoon tea and wine are available, these can be purchased separately

Guest who have book for our cream tea can upgrade to have an afternoon tea with prior arrangement. Contact us for more informations.

10:20 – Arrive in Epping

10:25 – Catch vintage bus 339 to North Weald

11:00 – Catch steam train to Ongar

11:20 – Arrive in Ongar

Free time to explore Ongar town

12:15 / 1:15 – Afternoon tea at ZincUp

1:30 – Ongar station for second steam train to North Weald and Epping Forest : 10 minutes delay, remain on train for Epping Forest

2:15 / 3:00 – Free time to explore Epping Ongar railway. Gift shops, specials events …
3:15 – Catch bus 339 to Epping underground station where the tour ends.

You are reminded that you will still need to bring a printed copy of the itinerary and entry pass to enable you to enjoy the tour.

We hold a wide range of activities, classes, events and productions throughout the year for all the community; young, old and anywhere in between.

Situated 200 metres from the Epping Ongar Railway, it’s just a short walk to reach us. Turn left out of the railway premises, walk 200 metres and you will see the Zinc building on the other side of the road. There is a zebra crossing halfway along the road on the way.
